Charlottesville Painting Maintenance Plan

A new paint job may not be far around the corner. It’s important to do regular checks of your home or business and look out for signs of a deteriorating paint job. After these checks, you may find that it is time to get a new paint job. A paint job that lasts is important to keeping curb appeal high and your dollars down.
Ways Paint May DeteriorateThere can be numerous reasons that paint can deteriorate as well as obvious signs you should look out for. Be sure to perform a walk around your house or property. Look for paint that is exhibiting signs of decay and consider getting that new fresh paint job to get your home market and guest-ready.
Signs of Its TimeWarped Siding – caused by the accumulation of moisture and by baking in the sun, warped siding is a manipulated area that cannot be flattened out. The best option is to either replace it or have the area prepped and painting.
Blistering or bubbling- the paint has lost adhesions and begins to pull away from earlier walls, this can be caused by high heat If one applies paint to a hot surface this can cause the paint to bubble and not completely adhere to the surface.
Peeling- Peeling is an unsightly result of sun damage and those bubbles and blisters bursting open. Those exposed areas only get worse with more sun exposure and continue to peel and blister, breaking down the paint on the surface.
Cracking or Staining Stucco- Your stucco should not be cracking, cracking stucco results in further damage as moisture and water enters these areas, making them crack and become damaged even more.
Fading- Another common issue is the process of fading or bleaching. You may not notice it but your paint job slowly begins to fade with sun exposure. Happening slowly, it may be hard to notice. It is important to find paint that is lasting, also you can take photos of your initial paint job and compare after a few years how the paint job is faded.
Chalking- Chalking can seem similar to that of fading, although it is actually a chemical change, by ultraviolet rays, causing the topcoat of paint to change and form a film of white dust, and if you simply paint over it may not completely adhere to the surface and further cause issues.
Mildew- sets in when moisture doesn’t evaporate, causing it to eat away at the paint. It is unwise to just paint over without removing and prepping the surface, the mildew will eventually come through again if it is just painted over.

Charlottesville Pressure Washing

As February rolls around, governments are loosening their restrictions in light of some stability during the coronavirus outbreak. However, folks around the nation are asked to remain patient and stay at home as much as possible, while maintaining our standards of social distancing. As we look to an odd spring with plenty of time spent at home, families have plenty of time to spend together, and homeowners have plenty of time to make home improvements. Today, we’re going to talk about an easy hack you can tackle while we sprint into spring.

Pressure Wash Your Property
Take a keen look around your property. Do you have siding that’s covered in dirt and grime? Or maybe the grill has even left a bit of smoke on its surface. Is your deck covered in mud from your last landscaping project? Or maybe it’s stained by grass clippings kicked around by your weed eater. Do you have a stone path to your garden that is completely overgrown? A pressure washer can work wonders to improve the look of your home. Hit fences, siding, decks, your driveway, paths — you name it. If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can rent one from your local hardware store, or purchase a decent model for a couple hundred dollars. Be sure to follow guidelines for the best psi to wash the surfaces you’re working on!

Contact us today for a FREE ESTIMATE on pressure washing your house in preparation for spring!  We would love to help and have been serving Charlottesville clients since 2004!

How To Find The Best Charlottesville Painting Contractor

1/22/2021

Picture
Find a Long-Trusted TeamThe age of a company isn’t necessarily a sign of quality, but it’s a good place start. If a company can survive in the competitive contracting industry for years, it’s clear they take pride in both their quality and their customer service.
A true professional will care about their image from top to bottom. Do they have a professional website that’s updated regularly? Can they be reached easily by phone or email? Do they boast an impressive portfolio? These are all things that can help you filter through the options and find the best painting contractor in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Ask for AccreditationAnother way to determine the quality of a painting company or contractor is to determine what professional groups they belong to. Accreditation shows pride in being a business owner, and in maintaining certain standards both in business, and in the painting industry.
These kinds of quality standard completions may be presented on the company’s website, but if not, it’s perfectly acceptable to ask for.
Take in Reviews or ReferralsWord of mouth is a great way to find a contractor that’s tried and true. Ask friends and family in the area if they have a team they trust and would hire again.
Read through online testimonials and referrals carefully. Yelp and Google My Business are great databases to see how others felt about their experience with the company.
Collect a Free EstimateAll reputable house painting companies will provide you with a free estimate before they begin. Be cautious of anyone who quotes over the phone. In order to properly quote for the job, the home should be evaluated carefully.
This is also a good time to ask about contractual guarantees and quality assurance. What are the policies about changing colors during the project? What if you find imperfections in the project after the fact? Knowing policies ahead of time can help you determine the flexibility of the company.
A Team You Can TrustRB Painting Company proudly serves the Charlottesville and Central Virginia, as well as several surrounding areas, including Albemarle County, Waynesboro, Madison and Greene County. As a trusted local Charlottesville painting company with over 10 years of experience, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with top-tier customer service and maintaining the highest level of professionalism. If you’re looking for a team to manage an upcoming project, we’d love to help. Give us a call or contact us online for availability.

Why Paint in The Winter in Charlottesville?

1/15/2021

Picture
Winter may be the last season that comes to mind when planning a painting project, but it might benefit you to flip your way of thinking. Sure, you’re bound to run into some issues regarding exterior painting during the colder months -- snow, high winds, and low temperatures can all get in the way of the prep work, application process, and dry times. Regardless of these potential outdoor concerns, interior painting is on the table year-round. After all, you have control of your internal climate, so the outside conditions don’t matter here. Even the reality of shorter days can be offset by indoor artificial lighting.
Still, you might wonder what difference winter makes in hiring interior painting services. For starters, the decrease in demand for painting services in the colder months means that customers have more bargaining power. In other words, you can expect painting contracts to cost less during the winter. Beyond that, winter conditions can actually benefit your interior painting project -- namely, lower humidity levels mean fewer issues regarding application and drying. Additionally, most people have less going on during the winter, meaning they can be around when the painting is taking place. This increases accountability and communication, and also allows you to enjoy your spring, summer, and fall to the fullest extent. It’s also a good idea to invest in HOA painting during the winter because shared facilities will probably receive less use during this time, meaning less interference while painting takes place.
Lastly, if you’re concerned about interior paint fumes sticking around during the winter due to decreased ventilation, ask your painters to use low- or zero-VOC paint products. These paints contain few or no volatile organic compounds, meaning they’re relatively odorless and non-toxic.

Charlottesville Interior Painting Ideas - January 2021

Choosing the right interior paint can be a daunting task. With so many different options available, it can be difficult to decide what will give you the best fresh and updated interior look. If you are repainting this winter, be on the lookout for warm, earthy tones to spice up your interior space.
In recent years, interior design has leaned towards cooler tones throughout the home, but if you’re on the hunt for new interior colors this winter, look for warmer beiges, olive and deep greens, clay colors with hints of orange, and rich browns. Colors such as these are known to bring the warmth back into your living space when the air outside gets brisk and the natural summer hues turn grey.
So now you’ve purchased the warm paint tones and you’re ready to get painting, but how should you paint? In recent months, retro paint design such as color blocking is on the rise. Color blocking creates a focal point in your room and creates shapes and emphasis on the different colors of paint used. If color blocking is too bold for your desired decor, accent walls are also trending this winter. Taking advantage of accent walls allows the use of more neutral colors throughout the space, but still invites an invigorating and warm look into the home. An accent wall also creates a focal point in the room and draws the eye to distinctive decor and style.
If you are skeptical about bringing these warmer tones to your walls, start small. Remember to swatch paint first to get the right idea of what will work for your unique space and taste.

Interior Paint Colors to Avoid - Charlottesville Edition

12/10/2020

Picture
Its important to know which paint colors to avoid in order to be sure that your home keeps its curb appeal and boosts its market value.  New paint jobs can be a great way to bring a breath of fresh air into any home or business. Colors can be bold and bright or demur and compliment the accents of the room within. There is, however, according to color specialists, some colors that you should avoid. These colors are usually based upon the specific rooms.

Red
Red can be a bold and fun color for an accent wall. It can add interest, however it can also be a fairly intense reaction. The bedroom is no place for a bright red color according to color psychology. The color red can be associated with anger and even violence and does not evoke a feeling of calm and safety like a bedroom should.

White
White walls can be a sleek and clean look in every space. However, it is also important to consider how white walls may become dirty easily. This is why it may be best to stay away from a lot of white paint in the bathroom. Due to soap stains among other stains that may occur in a bathroom, it may be best to stay away from white and instead light blues, light greens, or even soft grays can be perfect choices.

Yellow
Yellow can be great for small accents like furniture or even vases. However, according to Property Brothers, they recommend but using red or yellow on the interior walls of homes. This can be especially bad in a bedroom since, much like red, yellow is so bright and intense that it may not let you relax and be to be overpowering.

Green
Green is another one of the trickier colors to get correct. Green can be bright and fairly overpowering, looking somewhat tacky. Or even reminding people of the feeling of being sick. Believe it or not psychology of color Higley affects house paint colors.

Pink
Although this can be feminine and soft, almost soothing. Pink can also be overpowering and of to muddy or dark it can feel dirty.

Brown
Browns, if used correctly, can be wonderful paint colors. However, a few different hues can look dark and dirty. Especially in rooms like bathrooms or the living room. These rooms can look dark and dirty, making the room look smaller. Colors like light gray, green, blue or even beige can be a great way to add color and still keep your home’s value up.

Boost Your Home Value
It’s not only important to avoid certain paint colors in order to feel good and at home. It’s also essential to attracting a new buyer. Buyers don’t like bold colors that they think will be difficult to paint over. Instead, get a new fresh coat of paint that is sure to impress with neutral colors and avoiding certain colors. At RB Painting Company we have a color consultation service and we will make sure your new paint job is the perfect color for you.
